When traveling, flights may be non-direct flights or include stopovers. In Standard Forms we came across a false cognate as “interino” for “interim”.

Based on the context, we can translate it as follows:

Term: Interim airport

Definition: an interim airport means when someone should take more than one necessary flight to reach a particular destination (2023, Milanairports).

Translation: aeropuerto de conexión

*Please note that in Spanish there are two similarities between two related terms:

Vuelo con conexión: a connecting flight that requires passengers to leave the plane and board a different aircraft.

Vuelo con escala: a layover generally does not require passengers to leave the plane and board a different aircraft.
