When working on a PO, per style guide we explain any acronym the first time is mentioned (except ORSOS since this client only requires the explanation if source text includes the whole meaning + acronym written together).
What about the second et seq. when an acronym is included? Since we already explain the first time, we use it as is.
Examples using plural:
1. ORSOS
ST: adults in custody (AICs)
Translation (1st. time): adultos bajo custodia (adults in custody (AIC, por sus siglas en inglés))
Second et seq.: los AIC (not “los AICs”)
2. The Standard
ST: RMDs
Translation (1st. time): distribuciones mínimas requeridas (Required Minimum Distributions (RMD, por sus siglas en inglés))
Second et seq.: las RMD (not “las RMDs”)
3. Other clients
ST: COEs
Translation (1st. time): Oficinas de Educación del Condado (County Office of Education, COE, por sus siglas en inglés)
Second et seq.: las COE (not “las COEs”)
